The short version

No cookies, no advertising, no third-party trackers. Every forecast works without an account. If you create one we hold your email address and one saved lawn, and this page says what that means in full.

What we collect

When you look up a lawn

The postcode, ZIP or place name you type is sent to a geocoding service (postcodes.io for the UK, Open-Meteo elsewhere) to turn it into coordinates, and those coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo for a forecast. Coordinates are rounded before being cached. We do not store a record connecting you to a location.

Location

Two different things, and it is worth separating them.

An approximate location, always. The network tells us roughly which town a request came from: every site behind a CDN gets this: and we use it to show you a forecast for your area straight away instead of a blank page. It is town-level, we do not store it, and typing a postcode replaces it.

Your precise location, only if you allow it. On the home page your browser will ask whether to share it. If you say yes, the coordinates are used to look up your forecast and are not stored. If you say no, nothing happens, you keep the approximate forecast, and we do not ask again on that device. You can also press "Use my exact location" yourself at any time.

Analytics

We count page views and a small set of actions: a result being viewed, a profile being changed, a link being shared: so we can tell what is worth building. This is cookieless. No identifier is set, nothing is stored in your browser for us, and events cannot be tied back to a person or a session. We record the country your request arrived from, which the network tells us anyway, because UK and US visitors behave differently.

Because none of this uses cookies or similar storage for tracking, no consent banner is required, and you will not get one.

What your browser stores

Your mowing profile, mower type, unit preference, and whether you declined the location request are kept in your browser's local storage so the site remembers them. That data stays on your device and is never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes it.

If you create an account

An account is an email address and one saved lawn. That is everything it takes: no name, no password.

We keep the address, the date the account was created, and the date you verified it by clicking a sign-in link. Sign-in is a link we email you. It expires after 30 minutes and works once, and there is no password to go with it. A signed-in session lasts 90 days on the device you signed in on.

The saved lawn is the place you chose, in coordinates and the place name we show, your grass type if you picked one, and the settings your result ran with: mowing profile, mower type and preferences such as sociable hours. It stays until you change it or delete it. Deleting the lawn keeps the account.

The only emails the account itself sends are sign-in links and the confirmation when you delete it.

Delete the account and the lawn goes with it. Your email address is erased from our records, and we email you to confirm the deletion. What we keep afterwards is the fact that a deletion happened and when, with nothing in it that identifies you. Deleting the account also stops any app-list subscription at that address.

If the app list already had your address, we mark that row as an account holder. It stays one row per email: no second record, and the unsubscribe link you already have keeps working. Every email we send carries one-click unsubscribe headers.

If you join the app list

We store the email address you give us, which page you gave it on, and the date. We use it to send you one message when the app is ready. We do not sell it, share it, or use it for anything else. Every email carries a working unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, or object to us holding it. With an account that is the address and the saved lawn, and you can delete both yourself or by emailing us. For the app list it is one email address, and we will remove it on request without asking why. Contact privacy@mowdar.com.

Where data goes

The site runs on Cloudflare's network, and your account and saved lawn are stored there. Email goes out through Resend, which sees the address a message is sent to and the message itself. Forecast data comes from Open-Meteo, and UK postcode lookups from postcodes.io. Bank holiday dates come from GOV.UK. Those services receive the coordinates or place name needed to answer the request, and nothing else about you. Cloudflare and Resend may both process data outside the UK. Both are covered by the standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum, the safeguards UK law accepts for that.

How long we keep it

The account and the saved lawn last until you delete them. A sign-in link expires after 30 minutes and can be used once. A signed-in session lasts 90 days. An app-list row lasts until you unsubscribe. The counts in analytics have nothing in them that identifies anyone, so there is nothing in them to expire.

Why we are allowed to hold it

UK GDPR asks for a reason for each thing we hold. The account and the saved lawn are held to run the service you asked for. The app list is consent: you gave us the address for one purpose, and the unsubscribe link takes it back at any time. The analytics counts are legitimate interests, and they cannot be tied to a person.
